Potion
Playground

Potion Playground is an immersive interactive installation that takes players on a journey into the enchanting realm of potion making. By selecting three ingredients from a range of conductive cut-outs, participant's choice is transmitted as data to bring the magic to life. The vibrant visuals respond to their choices and movements fed from the Arduino to TouchDesigner, culminating in a spellbinding moment where waving the wand blend the ingredients, reflected in a mesmerizing projection. After just a flick of the wand, the player is presented with a potion or aura, while also being reminded of the consequences of choosing immoral ingredients. This captivating fusion of magic, technology, and morality prompts participants to reflect on their choices while experiencing the joy of crafting their unique potion creations.

In our collaboration for Potion Playground, I took on a multifaceted role, leveraging my skills in 3D modeling, motion design, and technical implementation. As the 3D modeler, I modeled the witch pot, potions, and auras using Blender. These elements came to life when the magic was conjured in the end, rendering captivating visuals that added to the immersive experience.

I designed and 3D printed the wand that served as the control interface for mixing the ingredients. Taking charge of the setup, I ensured the seamless integration of the conductive cut-outs, overseeing their connection to Arduino and enabling the smooth transmission of serial data. I wrote the Arduino scripts, enabling the transition data to be fed into TouchDesigner. This allowed for dynamic color changes and scene transitions, adding depth and interactivity to the experience.

In addition to my role as a creator for Potion Playground, I played an active part in promoting the event. I took the initiative to design posters that were used for the promotional campgin of Stories in Motion show at the Museum of Moving Image.
